You Are What You Eat – Choose Healthy Food and Lose Weight

You’ve most likely heard that you are a reflection of what you eat. It could be that you simply thought people used this phrase to encourage healthy eating but, in reality, you are what you eat. For example, the amino acids in the tuna from a tuna sandwich are broken down and utilized by your body for muscle and cell building. Your physical appearance is a reflection of your diet, and when you ingest junk food you will notice that your skin looks worse and you appear plumper than you do when you consume healthier foods. If you’re genuinely interested in losing weight, you need to look at your diet. When your diet is consists of unhealthy foods, doing a lot of exercise won’t be helpful to you. It’s important that you add good and hearty food in your diet.

The next step is to determine what good foods you should include in your diet plan for weight loss. The aim is to cut down on calories so that you lose weight, but without going with no food or causing yourself to binge on junk food. You need to slowly adjust your eating habits ratherthan drastically lowering your calories and food choices. Slowly include healthy meals and take out snacks and meals gradually. Protein is the first thing to put in your diet plan. Your body requires protein for repairing cells and building muscle, on top of other things. You can get enough of protein in your diet through foods such as meats (chicken, pork, beef), eggs or soya bean products. One more important food group to include is carbohydrates. You should be careful, though, not to overeat carbohydrates since any excess energy created by them merely turns into fat. Rather, go for more nourishing complex carbs like whole grain bread and brown rice. Finally, you need to include fats. Yes, fats! I know you’re losing fat but you nevertheless have to ingest them. Consume foods which contain healthy fat such as nuts and salmon. And remember to consume a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables since your body needs the vitamins and minerals.

You should also be aware of the varieties of foods you should avoid. It goes without saying that you should reduce your intake of the empty calories of junk food, and it’s wise to just consume lean meats. Stay away from processed (or simple) carbs (things like refined bread and pasta), try to aim for complex and whole carbs, like the brown rice mentioned earlier. Stay away from alcoholic drinks as much as you can as it will hamper your weight loss attempts.

So now you’re aware of what you should have in your diet and what foods you should avoid. Evaluate your regular eating habits and come up with several ways to make your meals more nutritious. If eating too much at one sitting is a concern, eat 5 to 6 smaller meals during the day so that your tummy will shrink and demand less food.
